Minister of Foreign Affairs accompanies President Boric in meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Prime Minister
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, accompanied today the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, in a meeting with the President of China, Xi Jinping, at the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing. In the meeting, they addressed the main issues of the China-Chile bilateral relationship, which since 2016 is a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a category that China reserves for countries with whom it has a strong relationship and development prospects.
"At the meeting, all the elements proper to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that unites Chile with the People's Republic of China were enhanced. We talked about economic cooperation, we talked about trade facilitation, we talked about the very important presence of Chinese investments in our country, and also about a political dialogue, obviously at a bilateral level", detailed the Foreign Minister after the meeting.
After, both leaders led a signing ceremony of 13 cooperation agreements, with the aim of modernizing and deepening the relationship between both countries (see press release).
Later, the Secretary of State accompanied the President in a meeting with Premier Li Qiang. "It was also a very interesting meeting that focused mainly on economic and trade issues, because basically the Prime Minister also concentrates competences in that area, in matters of foreign trade", the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out. The generation of opportunities was discussed. President Boric also expressed his interest in taking a broader view of the relationship between the two countries", he added.
