Undersecretary meets with the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, met with the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea, Kang Do-Hyung, who is visiting the country.

During the meeting, they discussed the great harmony that exists between both nations in oceanic matters, where Chile and the Republic of Korea announced, last June, the joint proposal to host the next United Nations Conference on Oceans in 2028.

They also talked about the importance of continuing cooperation in Antarctic matters in order to increase scientific links and coordination before the main multilateral forums of the Antarctic Treaty System.

Finally, the Republic of Korea was invited to ratify the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdictions (BBNJ), which will allow for better governance of this issue at the global level.
