Minister van Klaveren reaffirms Chile's commitment to human rights and gender equality

In Geneva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, participated in a high-level panel on human rights, on the occasion of the commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, one of the main United Nations instruments on gender equality.
The Minister highlighted that “Chile reiterates its unwavering commitment to gender equality and the human rights of all women and girls”. In this context, he called for the consolidation of multilateralism in pursuit of tangible commitments and accountability mechanisms to ensure progress in this area.
“Gender equality is not an optional goal, it is an imperative. Beijing+30 must be a turning point that transforms political will into tangible and lasting change,” added the minister, assuring that ”the Beijing+30 process represents a historic opportunity to strengthen this accountability and translate commitments into effective policies and actions.”
On the other hand, Minister van Klaveren also had the opportunity to talk with the Federal Councillor for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Ignazio Cassis, during a meeting held this day.
He also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Cameroon, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, and Nigeria, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, with whom he discussed various matters of common interest.
