Chilean Government and UN Women sign Memorandum of Understanding on Gender Equality
Foreign Affairs Minister, Antonia Urrejola, and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ximena Fuentes, participated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, between the Ministries of Interior and Public Security, Women and Gender Equality, and UN Women, within the framework of the reform of the Police of Investigations and Carabineros de Chile.
The agreement commits technical collaboration from UN Women, through the use of its methodology for gender transversalisation in public security, allowing the incorporation of this approach in all the work of the police, with special emphasis on the reform that is being carried out.
This new joint body is expected to prevent and eradicate gender-based violence and sexual harassment, both in the institutions and in their daily work with communities, in addition to updating existing instruments to promote a human rights approach.
