President Piñera appoints new Chilean Ambassadors to the Republic of Korea and Nicaragua

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodoro Ribera, announced that the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, has appointed career diplomat Gloria Cid Carreño as Chilean Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and career diplomat Francisco Javier Sepúlveda Valenzuela as Nicaraguan Ambassador. Both have already received their respective approvals.

Ambassador Cid has a degree in History from the Universidad de Chile and graduated from the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy. Specialized in International Relations, Multilateral Diplomacy and economic-commercial issues, she has worked in the Chilean Embassies in Costa Rica, Venezuela, Russian Federation, People's Republic of China and the Chilean Mission to the United Nations in New York.

She was in charge of the negotiations of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development at the Chilean Mission to the United Nations in New York. She has been Consul in Costa Rica and the Russian Federation.

In Santiago, she has held positions of responsibility in the Directorate General of Consular Affairs, Immigration and Chileans Abroad; in the Directorate of Asia Pacific; in the Directorate of Planning, and in the Directorate of Human and International Security.

Since November 2018, she has served as Director for North, Central America and the Caribbean.

Appointment in Nicaragua

Ambassador Sepulveda has a degree in Public Administration, a Bachelor's degree in Communications and is a graduate of the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy. He also has a diplomat's degree in International Economic Relations from the Universidad Mayor and a diplomat's degree in Latin American International Relations from the Universidad Alberto Hurtado.

He studied at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Santiago, and attended courses, seminars and symposiums at the Faculty of Humanities of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializing in Latin America.

He has served in Argentina, Cuba, Panama, Paraguay and Mexico. In the latter country he served as General Consul and Minister Counselor of the Embassy.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he has been assigned to the Directorates of North America, Europe, Strategic Planning and the Directorate General of Consular Affairs, Immigration and Chileans Abroad.

Currently, he serves as Director of Consular Services in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
