Foreign Ministry pays tribute to former Ambassador José Miguel Barros Franco and names in his memory an important hall of the institutional building

In a ceremony in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrés Allamand; the Undersecretary of Foreign Relations, Carolina Valdivia, and the General Secretary for Foreign Policy, Ambassador Gloria Navarrete, the Foreign Ministry paid posthumous tribute to former Ambassador José Miguel Barros Franco, a prominent diplomat, lawyer, and historian.

At the ceremony, a commemorative plaque was unveiled that called the meeting room of the General Secretariat of Foreign Policy of Chile, located in the institutional building, as the "José Miguel Barros Meeting Room."

"José Miguel was born to be a diplomat," commented the Foreign Minister about the former Chilean Ambassador to nations such as the Netherlands, the United States, Peru, and France. "It is very timely and well deserved because it is difficult to find a diplomat who has more merits than José Miguel to receive this posthumous honor," he added.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador's widow, Elna de Barros, and three of her four children —José Miguel, Alonso, and Elna—, as well as the President of the Association of Career Diplomats in Retirement, Rodrigo Gaete, who highlighted the Ambassador's career Barros, among other and nearby authorities.
