Foreign Affairs Minister participates in official visit of the President of the Government of Spain to Chile
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, accompanied the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, in the different activities carried out in the context of the official visit to Chile of the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
The Minister participated in the meeting that both presidents held at the Palacio de La Moneda, in which the authorities discussed the excellent moment of bilateral relations, highlighting issues such as the modernization process of the Chile-EU Association Agreement; economic-commercial and investment relations; security; gender equality and Antarctic cooperation. They also discussed the importance of promoting actions that benefit the green energy transition, democracy and human rights, among others. The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, was also present at the meeting.
The presidential visit to Chile strengthens the relationship between Chile and Spain, which has a broad and multidimensional nature, and which has acquired a density that transforms this country into one of the main partners of our country in the European Union.
This was reflected in the Renewed Strategic Alliance and also in a Presidential Declaration on Gender Equality, documents signed by both presidents. The Foreign Minister, meanwhile, signed a memorandum of understanding on Antarctic Cooperation, a joint action plan that deepens the bilateral relationship in this area, prioritizing areas such as diplomatic coordination in international forums, scientific and logistical cooperation, among others.
In addition, the authorities signed agreements in the areas of fair ecological transition, democratic memory, and cooperation between CORFO and Spain's Center for Technological and Industrial Development.
In order to further boost economic relations, the Chancellor and President Sánchez spoke at the Chile-Spain Business Meeting, organized by the CPC and SOFOFA, on the Chilean side, and the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), on the Spanish side.
Finally, the Minister accompanied Presidents Boric and Sánchez to an institutional act in La Pintana to commemorate International Women's Day, which was also attended by the Minister for Women, Antonia Orellana, as well as all the ministers of the Government, and the Mayor of that commune, Claudia Pizarro.
