With the participation of Josep Borrell: Acting Minister inaugurates conference on international relations in the new geopolitical context

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, inaugurated the conference “International Relations in a New Geopolitical Configuration”, which included the special participation of the former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
At the meeting, the Acting Minister analyzed the world scenario, highlighting that power dynamics are changing and with this, the approaches to international relations must adapt to a more complex reality.
“International cooperation, multilateralism and adaptability have become crucial elements to manage global challenges, such as armed conflicts, climate change, economic inequalities, health crises and digital transformation,” said the Minister (a), adding that Josep Borrell's leadership in the European Union was key to guide a foreign policy that seeks stability, development and international harmony.
The former EU representative recalled the signing of the Advanced Framework Agreement between Chile and the European Union, that took place during his administration, and sets new standards in trade and cooperation, reflecting the commitment to fundamental values for both parties.
On the other hand, he addressed the challenges that exist in multilateralism, especially in the preservation of peace and international order, as well as reflecting on the role of diplomacy; the role of the different actors and the need to collaborate among nations to advance a fairer world, with international law as the guiding principle.
He also addressed Russia's invasion of Ukraine; the new composition of power resulting out of technological competition, and the challenges presented by the European project in the current context.
