Tuesday, October 15th 2024

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, headed today, together with her counterpart from the Czech Republic, Jiří Kozák, the IX Round of Political Consultations between the two countries, an event that coincides with the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Chile and the Czech Republic, to be celebrated in 2024.

At the meeting, which took place in Prague, the authorities reviewed the main topics of interest, including cooperation in Antarctic affairs, astronomy, cybersecurity, science, culture, among others.

“Our countries have the potential to make progress on issues that will mark the future of the international agenda,” said Undersecretary de la Fuente, adding that “we have the opportunity to reaffirm the values that have united us as like-minded countries, but also the opportunity to improve our cooperation for the progress of our nations.”

At the occasion, they also pledged to deepen investment ties, an aspect that will be given a strong boost thanks to the Advanced Framework Agreement between Chile and the EU. The Czech Republic was the first country to approve the agreement and is awaiting its promulgation.

Forum 2000: Chile emphasizes its commitment to human rights

The Undersecretary also participated in a panel at the Forum 2000 conference, an event that brings together world leaders to discuss the challenges of the current context.

There, she highlighted the commitment of President Gabriel Boric's government to democracy and human rights. In an international environment with great challenges, the Undersecretary reflected on the importance of not abandoning the basic principles for peaceful coexistence, promoting the values that gave meaning to the creation of an international system, as well as working in a coordinated manner to find efficient long-term solutions to issues such as migration.

Finally, he met with the Chilean community in the Czech Republic, emphasizing the work carried out by the Foreign Affairs Ministry to attend to their needs abroad, as well as highlighting the work being done to strengthen the communities of compatriots abroad.
