Press Release on the decision of the International Court of Justice

Friday, May 24th 2024

The Government of Chile appreciates and supports the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, adopted today, in which it issued new provisional measures in the framework of the case “Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip (South Africa v. Israel)”.

Chile particularly appreciates the ICJ's request that the State of Israel immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah; keep the Rafah crossing open, allowing the provision of basic services and humanitarian assistance; and take measures to ensure access to the Gaza Strip for any commission of inquiry commissioned by competent United Nations bodies to investigate allegations of genocide.

Finally, the Government of Chile once again urges the State of Israel to comply with the provisional measures ordered by the ICJ.
