Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sign commitment to the UNDP Gender Equality Seal
oday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took place the signature ceremony of the directive commitment to the Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). With this, each of the directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs committed to comply with the different actions required to achieve such recognition by UNDP.
The Gender Equality Seal is an initiative promoted by UNDP at the global level that seeks to recognize public institutions committed to equality between men and women, and offers a roadmap for advancing gender mainstreaming.
Once the process of implementing the initiative has been completed, an external evaluation will be carried out for its certification and, in this way, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be recognized as a service that complies with gender equality standards, a fundamental support for the implementation of the Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP).
The FFP was launched in last year's June with the aim of establishing equality and non-discrimination as a guiding principle in Chile's foreign affairs policy. “Assuming the challenge and accessing the certification process of the seal, gives us the possibility to promote and accelerate cultural changes to the level we were looking for, as it calls us to meet international standards in this area, hand in hand with the priorities of the Foreign Policy area and compliance with the commitments made under the various agreements that our country has signed in terms of gender equality and human rights”, said the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, at the event.
The commitment to the Gender Equality Seal was signed by the Secretary General of Foreign Policy, Ambassador Rodrigo Olsen; the General Director of Consular Affairs, Immigration and Chileans Abroad, Ambassador Marta Bonet; the Director of Strategic Planning, Andrés Villar; the General Administrative Director, Claudia Rojo; the General Director of Legal Affairs, Claudio Troncoso; the General Director of Ceremonial and Protocol, Ambassador Christian Hodges-Nugent; the Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Chile Andrés Bello, Eduardo Calleja; the representative of the Directorate of Strategic Communications, Alicia Tagle; the President of the Association of Career Diplomats, Cristian Piña, and the President of the Association of Professionals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Juan José Muster.
Launch of the language manual
At the same event, the Direction of Strategic Communications presented the Inclusive and Non-Sexist Language Manual. This document was designed as a practical guide for consultation and use within the Foreign Affairs Ministry, among officials of all levels and geographical areas, in order to promote the adoption of a more inclusive language that does not perpetuate stereotypes and actively promotes gender equality and respect for diversity.
The text contains the fundamentals of inclusive language, identifying the problems associated with sexism in language and providing practical examples for its effective implementation.
