Minister van Klaveren concludes his participation in the 54th General Assembly of the OAS
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, concluded his participation in the 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States being held in Asunción, Paraguay.
At the start of the day, the Foreign Affairs Minister held a meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Luis Alberto Murillo, after which, on behalf of the Government of Chile, he handed over the rotating presidency of the Brasilia Consensus to this country. Thus, Chile concluded its mandate, which began on January 8, 2024.
Afterwards, he participated in the voting of the OAS Inter-American Juridical Committee, where the Director General of Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Claudio Troncoso, was elected as a member of that body after obtaining the first majority, with 29 votes.
Finally, Minister van Klaveren held a bilateral meeting with his Haitian counterpart, Dominique Depuy, where he expressed Chile's commitment to peace, security and democracy in Haiti, and reviewed cooperation alternatives for that country. They also discussed the valuable contribution of the Haitian community residing in Chile.
