Minister of Foreign Affairs signs Extradition Treaty and two other agreements with his Brazilian counterpart, during the visit of President Lula da Silva

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, accompanied today the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, in the different activities that took place during the State visit of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Three agreements between Chile and Brazil were signed during the day by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, which reflect the political commitment and great harmony between the two governments.

The first document signed by the ministers of Foreign Affairs is an Extradition Treaty, which seeks to make more effective the efforts of both nations to deal with the new phenomena of transnational crime and high-profile crimes, as it improves bilateral coordination, supports the investigation and enforcement of the conviction of a person who has fled.

Ministers Vieira and van Klaveren also signed an Agreement for the Reciprocal Recognition of Driver's Licenses, which aims to allow holders of driver's licenses issued by one of the States of the agreement to drive vehicles in the territory of the other, and a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs on cooperation between the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy of Chile and the Rio Branco Institute of Brazil on gender matters.

Finally, the Secretaries of State signed a joint declaration that celebrates the historic friendship that unites both nations, based on shared principles such as democracy, the promotion of peace, the protection of human rights, equality and social inclusion, sustainable trade and the protection of the environment.

At the ceremony, led by Presidents Gabriel Boric and Lula da Silva, other authorities also signed agreements on agricultural technical cooperation, cooperation in tourism, and on the rights of LGBTIQ+ people, the elderly, people with disabilities, and memory and truth.

During the morning, Chilean and Brazilian authorities signed a total of 19 documents on various topics, such as science, health, security, digital transformation, public works, social development, mining, energy and foreign trade.
