Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with his United Arab Emirates counterpart to seek new cooperation spaces
Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto van Klaveren met today with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with whom he discussed the bilateral and regional relationship and discussed the trade agenda, as well as new areas for cooperation.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, the authorities discussed the third round of negotiations to establish a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries, which will be held in Santiago this month. The agreement, which seeks to strengthen bilateral trade, is equivalent to a free trade agreement and will open up more opportunities for producers and investors from both countries.
The secretaries of state also discussed the negotiations on a series of memorandums of understanding on various topics and cooperation and investment in renewable energy, especially green hydrogen.
Finally, they discussed the COP28, which will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates at the end of next month. In this regard, the Minister stated that Chile is very concerned about the consequences of climate change and is committed to reducing carbon emissions.
