
Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with his Panamanian counterpart and emphasizes the importance of promoting multilateralism

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Javier Martínez-Acha, as part of his official visit to Chile.
At the meeting, the authorities discussed various aspects of the global scenario, emphasizing the importance of continuing to promote multilateralism and regional integration as tools that contribute to respect for international law and cooperation among nations.
In this context, Minister van Klaveren valued Panama's management of the inter-oceanic connection, a fundamental element for the optimum development of foreign trade. They also discussed the migration situation in the hemisphere and the need to build a regional voice in the face of the challenges of the global agenda.
They were also able to talk about the great coincidence that exists in oceanic matters, where both countries have ratified the BBNJ Agreement on oceanic protection in the high seas. Chile is promoting that the technical secretariat be located in Valparaiso, promoting international governance in this area.
