Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with Canadian counterpart

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, met today with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Canada, Mélanie Joly, who is visiting Chile. During the meeting, they discussed the main subjects of the bilateral agenda, such as gender, trade, critical minerals and forest fire management.

The authorities discussed institutional instruments under development and progress on the Framework Agreement on the renewal of the Strategic Partnership, which encompasses the joint commitment to address global challenges such as climate change, cybersecurity and gender equality.

They also discussed recent agreements and the strategic relationship on energy, mining and natural resources, which highlight the shared interest in promoting sustainable development and bilateral cooperation.

Fire Management Memorandum
 
At the meeting, Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister and Chile's Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Aid and Cooperation in Wildland Fire Management, which establishes a framework for the exchange of resources for fire suppression, post-fire recovery, information exchange, training, research, innovation and cross-border collaboration.
