Minister Alberto van Klaveren participates in the launch of the National Migration and Foreigners Policy
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, participated today in the launching of the National Policy on Migration and Foreigners at the La Moneda Palace.
The main objectives of this strategy are to promote safe, orderly and regular migration that contributes to the country's development, considering the diverse needs of the territories and cross-cutting approaches such as human rights, gender and intercultural issues, among others.
At the end of the activity, the minister detailed the aspects in which this policy is linked to the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "The Foreign Ministry is in charge of relations with our neighbors and with the rest of the countries that are participating in migratory flows and, consequently, there is obviously a very important dimension".
In the same context, he added that "we are very interested in achieving greater international cooperation in migratory matters. I have just participated on behalf of Chile in the last Mercosur summit in Puerto Iguazú, in Argentina, and precisely in our intervention we raised the need to advance in terms of cooperation in the migratory area".
The launching of the PNME was headed by the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Carolina Tohá. Also in attendance were the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel; the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Álvaro Elizalde; the Minister of Social Development and Family, Giorgio Jackson; the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Carlos Montes; the Minister of Women and Gender Equality, Antonia Orellana; the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve; and the Director of the National Migration Service, Luis Thayer, among other authorities.
