Foreign Minister Allamand appoints Ambassador Gloria Navarrete as Secretary-General for Foreign Policy
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrés Allamand, in consultation with the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, appointed Ambassador Gloria Navarrete Pinto as the new Secretary-General for Foreign Policy, who will take office on March 1, 2021. This is the highest career position in the Foreign Service Plant and it is the first time that a female diplomat will hold it.
Ambassador Navarrete is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a graduate of the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy. She has a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics and Political Science and is a graduate of the Foreign Service Program at the University of Oxford. In addition, she has a diploma in Administrative Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Abroad, she served in the Chilean Embassies to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Austria, and in the Mission of Chile to International Organizations based in Vienna.
In Chile, she was General Director of the Ceremonial and Protocol. She worked in the Unit of the International Court of Justice of the Foreign Ministry and in the Planning Department. She has also been the chief of staff for the Undersecretary of Foreign Relations.
At the time of her designation, she was serving as Ambassador to Austria, concurrent in Slovenia and Slovakia, and Permanent Representative to International Organizations based in Vienna.
