Monday, June 10th 2024

In the context of the high-level international conference for an emergency humanitarian response for the Gaza Strip, to be hosted by Jordan tomorrow, Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren visited the Wadi Seer Vocational Training Center of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Unrwa).

“We express Chile's continued commitment to the Palestinian refugees and the mission of Unrwa. Solidarity and international cooperation to address the challenges faced by Palestinian refugees is very important,” noted the Foreign Affairs Minister in Amman.

The Minister met with the Director of Unrwa Affairs in Jordan, Olaf Becker, and learned about the agency's operations in Jordan, where it supports more than one million Palestinian refugees through its social services, medical care, education, vocational training and a microfinance program.

During the tour of the Vocational Training Center, the minister had the opportunity to visit some of the more than 40 courses offered by Unrwa, such as architecture, hybrid vehicle mechanics and barbering.

“I had the opportunity to learn about the great work that Unrwa does in the comprehensive and effective inclusion of Palestinian refugees. It is important to support the humanitarian work of this UN agency, which plays an essential role in the area,” added Minister van Klaveren.

Becker thanked Chile for its support over the years and highlighted the significant impact of the contributions in the lives of Palestinian refugees.
