The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, participated in the bilateral meeting that the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric Font, held at La Moneda Palace with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, who is on an official visit to Chile.

During the meeting, which was attended by delegations from both countries, they discussed trade cooperation, environment, renewable energies, artificial intelligence, cultural exchange, among other matters.

After the meeting, both leaders held a joint statement and led the signature of a strategic cooperation agreement for the creation of the French-Chilean Binational Center on Artificial Intelligence, between the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation and the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA), the first that this French organization has signed with a government or entity of another country and which constitutes a new milestone in the extensive and successful history of scientific and technological collaboration between the two nations.

“France and Chile share a historic relationship based on common values such as democracy, multilateralism and respect for international law. This harmony is reflected in multiple convergences in education, defense, renewable energy science, artificial intelligence, ocean conservation, among other key areas. Furthermore, we know that cooperation between our nations not only promotes the welfare of our societies, but also contributes to a more just and equitable social order,” said President Boric in his statement.
