Foreign Affairs Minister accompanied the President at the Summit for Peace for Ukraine
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, joined the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, at the Summit for Peace for Ukraine, held yesterday and today in the town of Bürgenstock, in the Swiss city of Lucerne.
At the end of the summit, the Chilean President was one of the four leaders invited to participate in the final declaration, together with the co-organizing countries: Switzerland and Ukraine.
At the event, the head of state stressed the importance of the summit in promoting lasting peace dialogues, and highlighted Chile's position on the conflict: “Chile, my country, a small nation in the southern part of the world, with a population of 20 million inhabitants, understands that only adherence to international law and the protection of human rights can guarantee peace,” he said.
“This summit and these convictions are not about NATO, they are not about right-wing or left-wing political ideas. It is not about northern or southern countries. It is about the fact that respect for international law and human rights is a fundamental principle for our coexistence, and this is applicable in Ukraine, in Gaza and in any other conflict in the world,” the President added.
Bilateral with Finland
The Foreign Affairs Minister also attended a meeting with his Finnish counterpart, Alex Stubb, where they agreed to strengthen joint work between the two countries, mainly in innovation and technology.
