Chilean government delivers humanitarian aid to Gaza
The Government of Chile, through the Chile Fund against Hunger and Poverty, urgently sent US$ 100,000 to Gaza. It will be channeled through the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to meet the particular needs of women, adolescents and girls, through dignity kits, which will cover their basic hygiene requirements.
"This contribution responds to the call made by the Secretary General of the United Nations to come to the aid of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and is in line with the Feminist Foreign Policy", said the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente.
The current humanitarian aid is in addition to two others delivered in 2023. The first was sent to Ukraine, in July, and the second to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), to help Palestinian refugees, in October. In total, during 2023, the Chilean Government granted US$ 500 thousand for humanitarian crises through the Chile Fund.
It should be noted that the Chile Fund is a 2011 initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and AGCID, in conjunction with UNDP Chile, and in addition to delivering humanitarian aid to different countries in the face of various disasters, has supported the implementation of more than 70 cooperation projects, which have contributed to the development of countries in South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia Pacific. It is currently in its third phase for the period 2023-2026.
