Thursday, June 13th 2024

As part of the official visit of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, to Sweden, the Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren and the Swedish Minister of Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell, signed, at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a roadmap document that seeks to deepen the bilateral relationship, considering the common opportunities and challenges between the two countries.

The authorities also held a meeting where they discussed the importance of a green transition, the relevance of lithium to advance in this challenge, and Chile's comparative advantages for the production of this mineral, which is necessary for the development of electromobility.

They also emphasized the need to intensify commercial exchange with a focus on sustainable development, together with highlighting the historic bilateral link, marked by the presence of a significant Chilean community in Sweden.

Work meetings

The Foreign Affairs Minister accompanied President Gabriel Boric in a meeting, held at Stockholm University, with academics from the Chile-Sweden Academic Cooperation Platform (Access). The objective of this group is to facilitate and deepen academic relations between both countries, as well as to promote investments in science and doctorates.

Moreover, he joined the President on a visit to the facilities of Fryshuset, the world's largest youth crime prevention center, which focuses on fostering encouragement, confidence, responsibility and understanding of young people at social risk, so that they can develop skills and integrate into society.

Likewise, the Foreign Affairs Minister and the Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz, headed the national delegation that visited Scania, a Swedish heavy vehicle company, in order to learn about what they are doing in electromobility and sustainable transport.
