Chile joins the Counter Ransomware Initiative

Chile officially joined today the Counter Ransomware Initiative (CRI), an international initiative aimed at building collective resilience and designing policy approaches to address the threat of ransomware, one of the main types of cyber-attacks worldwide, which consists of malicious programs that hold data and devices hostage until a ransom is paid.
The initiative, launched by the United States in 2021, seeks to improve the ability to detect, disrupt and dissuade malicious actors that participate in or facilitate attacks of this type, and today is the largest international cybersecurity association at the global level. Chile expressed its interest in joining the CRI during the Chile - United States High Level Dialogue, held in October 2024 in Washington.
Joining the CRI consolidates the significant work that Chile has done in recent years in the international area, promoting cooperation, building capacities and the responsible conduct of States in cyberspace. At the national level, this is reflected in the publication of the National Cybersecurity Policy 2023-2028, the Framework Law on Cybersecurity, and the establishment of the National Cybersecurity Agency.
