Chile attends ICJ hearings where provisional measures requested by South Africa in its lawsuit against Israel are being considered
The Government of Chile, represented by its ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Jaime Moscoso, attended the first day of hearings convened by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), based in The Hague, where the provisional measures requested by South Africa are being examined in the context of the lawsuit filed against Israel for alleged violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The Government of Chile is following this case with great interest and values, particularly, the request made to the ICJ for Israel to immediately suspend its military operations in and against Gaza.
Following the decision on the provisional measures, the ICJ will set the timetable for hearing the case on the merits of the South African claim, including the opening of a period for receiving written statements from third States. Chile is analyzing the steps to be taken, which will be informed in due course.
