Chile assumes the chairmanship of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the Organisation of American States 2023-24
In the context of the XXIII Regular Session of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE), held in Mexico City on 17-18 May 2023, Chile was elected by acclamation to serve as Chair of the Committee for the period 2023-2024. Ecuador was elected to serve as Vice-Chair of the Committee.
CICTE was established in 1999 and its main objective is to promote and develop cooperation among OAS Member States in order to prevent, combat and eliminate terrorism in the Americas.
By assuming the Presidency of CICTE, the Government of Chile reaffirms its commitment to the fight against terrorism and will seek to promote, together with the Member States and the Secretariat of the Committee, the strengthening of the capacities of the countries of the region in various areas such as cybersecurity, the prevention of violent extremism and air and border security.
This is the second time that Chile holds the chairmanship of the Committee, the first being in 2016.
