Chile and Belgium strengthen their ties in the III Round of Political Consultations led by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs
The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, together with the Director-General for Bilateral Affairs of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jeroen Cooreman, led the III Round of Political Consultations, a meeting that took place in Brussels.
Both parties reviewed the main topics of the bilateral relationship. Specifically, they talked about trade and investment projection with a vision of increasing their ties.
They discussed the importance that Chile and Belgium give to the energy transition, where the production of green hydrogen is essential and are already exploring strategic initiatives to collaborate, which shows a strong and growing partnership, which is in line with the commitment to achieve carbon neutrality.
“We've managed to modernize and adapt our bilateral ties to respond to the growing demands and changes in our regions and countries,” said the undersecretary, adding that the relationship should continue to be nurtured in various areas, such as climate change, circular economy, gender equality, technology and innovation, among others.
The authorities agreed to continue working in the academic, scientific, cultural and gender fields, areas where they have great coincidences.
Regarding the multilateral sphere, they highlighted their affinity in human rights, actively participating in international organizations, where they have worked together on issues related to gender and protection of LGBTIQA+ communities, children's rights, among other issues, demonstrating a broad affinity in principles and values that govern the foreign policy of both countries.
Additionally, the Undersecretary met with the Director General for the Americas of the European External Action Service, Brian Glynn. There, they discussed Chile's relationship with the European Union, specifically the importance of advancing in the approval of the Advanced Framework Agreement, as well as the current global challenges.
