Chancellor Ampuero attends the commemoration of the Bicentenary of the Embrace of Maipú

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, accompanied the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, today in the activities to commemorate the Bicentenary of the Embrace of Maipú, a gesture made by Generals Bernardo O'Higgins and José de San Martín at the end of the Battle of the same name, which sealed Chile's independence.

The activities included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the Plaza "A los Vencedores de los Vencedores de Bailén" and the inauguration of a mural in the Municipality of Maipú. An Ecumenical Te Deum was then held in the Votive Temple of Maipú, celebrated by the Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati, accompanied by the President of the Episcopal Conference and the Military General Bishop of Argentina.

There was also a parade of Chilean and Argentine detachments belonging to the parent schools of officers and non-commissioned officers, in addition to the presence of presentation units from all branches of the Armed Forces and Carabineros.

Today's event was attended by an Argentine delegation led by the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Marcos Peña; the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Jorge Faurie; the Minister of Defence, Óscar Aguad; and the Ambassador of Argentina to Chile, José Octavio Bordón.
