Undersecretary Rodrigo Yáñez tours the U.S. and Canada to discuss the country's situation with investors and government authorities

This Monday, the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yáñez, began a tour in North America -Canada and the United States- together with the Minister of Economy, Lucas Palacios. The authorities have met with different actors, with the aim of informing about the process our country is going through and also to deliver information about the measures announced by the government that will contribute to the decision making of the different actors and sectors.

The Undersecretary said that the reason for this trip is to hold meetings with trade and economic authorities, investors and think tanks in order to inform about the situation in Chile and the measures adopted by the Government to address social demands within the institutional framework.

"Chile is a country of seriousness path, which is and will continue to work to fulfill its commitments. Foreign investment has been fundamental for Chile and has contributed to our growth and economic development," said the authority.

Agenda in the United States: Washington and New York

Today, Rodrigo Yanez met with Deputy USTR C.J. Mahoney in Washington, DC.

This afternoon, along with the Economy Minister, they met at the White House with Larry Kudlow, director of the White House National Economic Council, President Donald Trump's chief economic advisor, who has played an important role in unlocking negotiations with China.

Also, the Undersecretary held a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture, Ted McKinney, among other local authorities.

Following the meetings in Washington, the Chilean authorities will head to New York on Thursday 19 to participate in a reunion at the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, which will be attended by representatives of the financial system such as BBVA New York, Bloomberg, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank Securities, Goldman Sachs, HSBC Secutirities, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Mastercard, MetLife Inc., Moodys Investors Service and The Estée Lauder Companies, among others.

Canadian Agenda: Ottawa and Toronto

The Undersecretary's trip began in Ottawa, Canada, with a meeting with the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, Mary Ng. This is the first time Justin Trudeau's newly appointed Minister has met with a foreign authority. They discussed the creation of a strategic alliance of SMEs and women in trade. Also, among the topics discussed was WTO reform within the framework of the Ottawa Group, which is led by Canada, and its next meeting in Davos in January.

On Tuesday 17, his tour took him to Toronto, where he met with Finance Minister Lucas Palacios. On that day, he held meetings with Scotiabank CEO Brian Porter, representatives of mining companies with investments in Chile like Barrick Gold, Tech, Yamana, and also institutional investors.

On the occasion, both authorities participated in a panel organized by the Toronto Region Board of Trade, where they spoke with entrepreneurs, stakeholders and members of Canadian academia about the social and economic situation in Chile.
