Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Carolina Valdivia participates as a panelist in the International Conference "Trade for Her"
On September 30, in Brussels, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Carolina Valdivia, took part as panelist in the International Conference "Trade for Her", organized by the Commissioner for Trade of the European Union, Cecilia Malmström.
In this instance of conversation and reflection proposed by the European Union, it was discussed how to achieve greater incorporation of women in International Trade, both in the European Union and in the rest of the world.
Undersecretary Valdivia, together with other authorities such as the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre, Arancha González, led the panel "Barriers faced by women in trading in Europe and beyond", which addressed the obstacles faced by women to develop an economic activity, with special emphasis on international trade. The Undersecretary referred to Chile's experience as a pioneer in incorporating gender chapters in free trade agreements.
It was highlighted that, for the first time in APEC's thirty years of existence, a host country includes women and inclusive growth among its priorities, which will be worked on throughout the year that Chile leads this forum and which began with the launch of "Women's Week" in La Moneda on September 27.
The conference was also attended, among others, by WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo, ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre, Arancha González, as well as representatives of the EU, OECD, UNCTAD, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, to name a few.
Undersecretary Valdivia also held meetings with the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Helga Schmid, and the Executive Director for the Americas of the EEAS, Edita Hrdá, to address issues specific to the bilateral Chile-EU relationship.
