The regional launch of the global campaign for the good treatment of children and adolescents with disabilities took place in ECLAC

The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Disability and Accessibility, María Soledad Cisternas, presented the global campaign for the good treatment of children and adolescents with disabilities.

The initiative, launched at the regional level at ECLAC headquarters, aims to raise awareness and encourage the elimination of discriminatory treatment or actions, exploitation and abuse of children and adolescents with disabilities in order to contribute to the full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

María Soledad Cisternas pointed out that more than 1,000 million people have one or more forms of disability in the world. "Disability does not recognize political colors, disability belongs to everyone, to those who have a disability and those who do not have a disability," she said.

The campaign, based on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which has been ratified by 177 States, includes 10 principles to ensure good treatment of children and adolescents with disabilities. "Good treatment for children and adolescents with disabilities is a positive formulation that compels the authorities and the environment to create conditions that facilitate the exercise of their human rights and fundamental freedoms, free from all violence, mistreatment and abuse," concluded Cisternas.
