María Teresa Infante is elected judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea
Ambassador Maria Teresa Infante Caffi was elected judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, in the framework of the 30th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Ambassador Infante, who was elected to hold the position until the year 2029, becomes the third female judge in history to integrate the 21-member Tribunal.
She has an extensive and distinguished career in the public and academic spheres, serving for more than 15 years as Director of Borders and Boundaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Likewise, as an expert in the Law of the Sea, she has stood out for her work as Chile's Coagent in recent cases before the International Court of Justice.
Currently, she serves as Chilean Ambassador to the Netherlands and Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) based in The Hague.
This election constitutes a high recognition to the traditional commitment of our country for the promotion, respect and development of International Law, and at the same time, to the work that an outstanding team of professionals of our Foreign Affairs Ministry has been promoting for years.
