Chancellor Ribera participates in ministerial meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism
As part of his participation in the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations held in New York, today the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodoro Ribera, attended the ministerial meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism "Building networks and presenting results" promoted by Germany, France, Canada, Mexico and Chile.
The goal of this partnership is to create a network of countries united in their conviction that a rule-based multilateral order is the only reliable guarantee for international stability and peace and that our common challenges can only be resolved through cooperation.
During his speech at the meeting, Chancellor Ribera stressed that given the current global context "it is urgent to renew and strengthen our capacity for collective action and international cooperation if we are to consolidate peace, defeat poverty, achieve sustainable development and protect human rights, among many other challenges". In this sense, the Minister assured that Chile also seeks to "highlight the modernization of international organizations, adapting them to current needs and demands.
In this way, the Minister added that Chile integrates this Alliance "with the conviction that multilateralism is strengthened when States and other actors, such as civil society, private enterprise and academia, share responsibilities to preserve or build democratic, peaceful, sustainable and equitable societies".
In this line, the Minister highlighted that our country continues to work "in a broad and diverse international agenda, with an active role in a multilateralism focused on understanding and achieving consensus among the parties". In this way, he added that being part of such an initiative is a seal of our country's commitment to the Alliance for Multilateralism, as well as to "freedom of the press and freedom of expression as one of our fundamental values in the defense of democracy and human rights.
