Chancellor on the Silala case: "Throughout the process, our position has been consolidated".

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodoro Ribera, referred today to the delivery of the additional brief prepared by Chile as part of the stage of written pleadings in the process against Bolivia for the Silala Case. The document was presented before the International Court of Justice in The Hague by Agent Ximena Fuentes and Coagent María Teresa Infante.

"This concludes the written phase of the trial according to the procedure established in the rules of the Court and it will now be this Court that sets the date for the oral arguments, which is the last procedural instance before the sentence," explained the Chancellor.

The Secretary of State indicated that "throughout the process, our position has been consolidated, given the solidity of our presentations and founding documents of our position" and added that "Chile has a legal and scientific team of excellence, composed of both Chilean and foreign professionals of recognized trajectory".

The Minister recalled that "in June 2016, Chile sued Bolivia before the International Court of Justice to declare that the Silala River is an international watercourse and that Chile, as a coastal state, has the right to use its waters". In this sense, he pointed out that the Chilean position is solid and has not changed since the beginning. "The Silala River is an international river that crosses the border into our country naturally. To this effect, we have accompanied before the International Court of Justice much and abundant scientific and legal evidence that strengthens our cause," he said.
