The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, referred today to the situation of the two Chilean citizens detained in Malaysia, who were convicted of the crime of manslaughter after the agreement reached with the local prosecutor's office, so they could soon leave their regime of imprisonment in that country.
"We said we weren't going to leave them alone and we didn't leave them alone. I must also emphasize that their parents and family members have recognized this support provided on a permanent basis by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," said the foreign minister.
"Throughout this period in which they have been detained, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, through its Consulate in Kuala Lumpur, has been assisting, delivering consular assistance to these two compatriots," said the Secretary of State.
"His parents, relatives, have recognized this support provided on a permanent basis by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The decision of the Malaysian justice system shows that this process, which has been worrying us all for quite some time, is moving in a direction that is more favorable than it was some time ago," concluded the Chancellor.
