Thursday, November 15, 2018

The Undersecretary (S) of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Patricio Torres, led today in Santiago, together with the Assistant Undersecretary and Head of the Americas Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bénédict de Cerjat, the V Meeting of the Political Consultations between Chile and Switzerland.

The meeting reviewed the state of bilateral relations and the progress made, mainly in the areas of cooperation, energy, mining, environment, education, human rights, investment and trade. In this sense, the modernization process of the Free Trade Agreement signed in 2003 between our country and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was also analyzed.

The occasion also allowed for an exchange of views on regional policy issues of common interest, generating feedback according to the experiences of each country.

On the other hand, the opportunity was propitious to highlight the 100 years of Swiss diplomatic presence in Chile, which is why Ambassador Torres underscored this significant fact in view of the solid link existing between Chile and Switzerland, as well as the contribution of the Swiss community to the development of our country.

Finally, both authorities resolved to continue strengthening ties in all those areas that enable sustainable growth and provide greater support in multilateral instances.
