Wednesday, June 6, 2018

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Alfonso Silva, received the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, George Katrougalos, today as part of a tour of South America. The Secretary General for Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Patricio Torres, also participated in the meeting.

The meeting aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries, taking into account the fact that ties with Greece are long-standing and have been growing as Greece joined the Pacific Alliance as an Observer State in 2015.

At the event, they also addressed bilateral issues, including the economy, culture, cooperation, among others, as well as concerns on regional issues, both in Latin America and in Europe.

As part of his visit to Chile, Minister Katrougalos, who is also responsible for European Affairs and International Economic Relations of his country, gave a talk at the O'Higgins Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was attended by guests linked to the Hellenic country, as well as the diplomatic corps accredited in Chile.

On the occasion, he raised the issue of the future of the European Union from the perspective of Greece, addressing the effects of the economic crisis and its impact on the process of regional integration itself in the face of the challenges of maintaining the EU as a key player at global level.
