Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs (S), Ambassador Patricio Torres leads Political Consultations with Japan
The Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (S), Ambassador Patricio Torres, and the Director General of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ambassador Takahiro Nakamae, chaired the VIII Chile-Japan Political Consultations Meeting yesterday.
Both authorities stressed the optimal level of bilateral relations, which were upgraded to a "Strategic Partnership" at the beginning of this year. With it, it is hoped to deepen political dialogue and develop a bilateral agenda on innovation, education and science and technology.
Also highlighted was the "Japan Chile Partnership Programme 2030" agreement, signed last February, through which AGCID and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will seek to expand and promote the strategy of triangular cooperation.
Ambassador Torres and Director General Nakamae expressed their satisfaction with the excellent level of economic integration and commercial exchange between Chile and Japan, which is taking place within the framework of the Economic and Strategic Partnership Agreement, and at the regional level, they look forward to the early entry into force of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty (CPTPP).
Finally, the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs (S), Ambassador Patricio Torres thanked the Director General, Ambassador Takahiro Nakamae, for his presence in our country and through him cordially invited Japan to assume an active role as APEC Chile 2019 participant.
