Wednesday, September 12, 2018

The Secretary General of Foreign Policy, Patricio Torres, received in audience the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Patrick De Beyter, who ends his diplomatic mission after four years in our country.

Subsequently, the Secretary General led the farewell ceremony to the Ambassador of Belgium and decorated him with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Chile.

Afterwards, a lunch was served at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an event attended by prominent business representatives, as well as representatives of the Belgian community and the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Chile. This opportunity allowed us to highlight the historical and strong ties that exist between Chile and Belgium, which was widely demonstrated through the multiple activities that Ambassador De Beyter carried out during his term in our country.

Ambassador Patrick De Beyter began his duties in 2014, a period in which he enriched cooperation with the Walloon Region, as well as with the Flemish Community in Belgium for more than 25 years. In addition, it placed special emphasis on the cultural area and the improvement of commercial and economic relations. It was also an important ally for Chile in its aspiration to modernize the Association Agreement with the European Union.
