Minister Ampuero culminated visit to Tierra del Fuego and returned to Punta Arenas to commemorate 500 years of the discovery of the Strait of Magellan
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, carried out a series of activities in Tierra del Fuego as part of his third day of visit to the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica.
At first hour the Secretary of State met with the Governor of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Margarita Norambuena Caviedes.
Later, he held a meeting at the Porvenir Lions Club with representatives of neighboring councils and social organizations. "They presented their visions of how Chile's southern zone should develop as well as a vision that points toward integration with the rest of the country and their appreciation of Chile, which looks toward Antarctica taking advantage of developing the tourist and economic sphere," explained the Minister.
He then toured Pesquera Bahía Chilota, a producer of crab from Porvenir, which exports around 90% of its products to China, with the collaboration from ProChile.
"We were talking with the entrepreneurs, the owners of this company, with their workers and we saw how important Chile's integration into the world is through the free trade agreements that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promotes and carries out," said the Secretary of State.
After that, the Minister returned to Punta Arenas, where he met with Ricardo Rozzi, co-founder of Puerto Williams' Omora Ethnobotanical Park, a 1,000-hectare protected area located in the north of Navarino Island, on the southern shore of the Beagle Channel, which the Secretary of State visited on Thursday.
Finally, the Chancellor visited the art gallery Casa La Porfía and met with local artists who are part of that cultural collective.
The Minister's day today will culminate with a meeting that will begin the commemoration of the 500 years of the discovery of the Strait of Magellan. Tomorrow he will participate in other activities framed in this anniversary together with the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera.
