As part of the Our Ocean Conference held in Bali, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero met with his Norwegian counterpart Ine Eriksen. During the meeting, they addressed the intention of the Kon Tiki Museum of Oslo, to restore to Chile several elements of the collection on Rapa Nui that this institution possesses, which includes archaeological and ethnographic pieces, carved artifacts, as well as a photographic collection.

This museum exhibits the adventures and explorations of Thor Heyerdahl in the 50s and 60s, including his expeditions to Rapa Nui.

Chancellor Ampuero expressed his gratitude for "the Kon Tiki Museum's willingness to hand over to the Rapa Nui community the cultural objects currently in its possession, as well as to the Norwegian government for supporting and accompanying this decision". He added that "soon we will establish the steps to concretize the recovery of these important works of Rapa Nui cultural heritage".
