Saturday, August 18, 2108

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, expressed his condolences for the death of Kofi Annan, whom he highlighted as an "irreplaceable figure in the struggle for rights and international justice".

The Secretary of State added that the best way to honour his memory would be "to reinforce Chile's commitment to multilateralism, international law and human rights".

A native of Ghana, Annan was Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. In 2001 he won the Nobel Peace Prize "for his work for a better organized and more peaceful world".
