Chancellor Ampuero accompanies President Piñera in meeting with Spanish Head of Government, Pedro Sánchez
President Sebastián Piñera, accompanied by Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero, received in La Moneda the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, who is visiting our country as part of his tour of Latin American countries.
Upon his arrival at the Palace, Sánchez held a private meeting with President Piñera and later an expanded meeting, where he emphasized the good relationship that exists between Chile and Spain.
During the meeting, the authorities addressed issues of multilateral and regional relations, the current situation in Venezuela and cooperation on cybersecurity issues.
Another of the topics discussed at the working meeting was the negotiation currently being carried out between our country and the European Union to modernize the Free Trade Agreement, in which Chile seeks to raise standards by incorporating the gender dimension, innovation and sustainable development.
Regarding Sanchez's visit to our country, Chancellor Ampuero declared: "Spain is a very important country for Chile, both from a political, economic and social point of view. An example. Spain is the third country of destination for Chileans travelling abroad, the second recipient of Chilean scholarships for doctorates and the third for Masters".
The Minister added: "In this context, the visit of President Pedro Sánchez is a clear sign of the solid relationship between the two nations, both from a political and economic point of view, and is also part of the Association Agreement between Chile and the European Union".
At the end of the working meeting, President Piñera offered a lunch in honor of Sánchez and his delegation, which was held in the Patio de Los Naranjos in the Palacio de La Moneda.
