As part of his participation in Chile Week China, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, arrived at the facilities of the corporate building of Huawei, the Chinese company in charge of installing the Southern Optical Fiber.
During the visit, the Chancellor and the Chilean delegation attended an exposition on the details of this project, which contemplates the installation of an optical fiber of more than 2900 kilometers in length, equivalent to three times the route between Santiago and Puerto Montt.
"We were visiting part of the Huawei facilities in Beijing and we were very impressed because we saw very clearly the project to join through a fiber optic Puerto Montt with the extreme south of our country," said Chancellor Ampuero at the end of the tour.
He added that "this will allow Chile's southern zone to be connected to the world through a technology that allows the instantaneous transmission of data, which will translate into electronic commerce, distance education, among other direct benefits for citizens".
During the visit, Chilean authorities had the opportunity to see a sample of the fiber optic and know the technical details of the initiative, which will begin its facilities in December this year.
