Chile and Washington State sign memorandum to strengthen cooperation

Chile and the United States have set out to generate new spaces for cooperation, growth and opportunities for sustainable development. To move forward in this task, Chile's Ambassador to the United States, Alfonso Silva, along with Washington State Governor Jay Inslee, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote collaboration on energy, natural disaster risk reduction, ocean acidification and private sector exchange.

The ceremony took place at the Washington State Department of Commerce and was attended by the delegation of the public-private mission organized by AMCHAM and the Embassy of Chile in the United States, to learn about experiences and working models on artificial intelligence in Seattle and Silicon Valley.

It has been a transversal and permanent policy in the relationship with the United States, to strengthen not only the federal relationship, but also that with the state. In 2015, Chile and the State of Washington signed the first Memorandum of Understanding on energy issues, taking into account the coincidences between both countries in areas such as climate, natural resources and international commitment to the development of renewable energy.

Chile has also signed other memorandums of understanding with the States of California (2008 and 2013) and Massachusetts (2011) to promote opportunities for cooperation in innovation, science and technology, social development and trade links.
