Undersecretary Silva led Chile-Latvia Political Consultation Meeting

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alfonso Silva, together with the Secretary of State of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Mr. Andrejs Pidegovics, led the III Meeting of Political Consultations between the two countries. On the occasion, the main aspects of the bilateral relationship were discussed, emphasizing the need to increase cooperation in various areas, especially in education, science and technology, with a vision of commemorating, in 2021, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Chile and Latvia.

They also addressed regional and global policy issues that are on the international agenda.

The meeting allowed for the creation of a broad agenda for the future that will allow for greater cooperation between Chile and Latvia, a link that is part of the current negotiations to modernise the Association Agreement between Chile and the European Union.

Along with participating in this important meeting, Secretary of State Andrejs Pidegovics, headed a Latvian business delegation that is part of the Baltic countries' ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) business mission that visited Chile on April 9th and 10th, a mission that also extends to Costa Rica.
