This Thursday, the Fifth Round of the modernization process of the Association Agreement between Chile and the European Union, centered on the Political Pillar and Cooperation, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The respective delegations were headed by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Carolina Valdivia, and the Executive Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service, Edita Hrdá.
Among the topics discussed were climate change, migration issues, ocean governance, decentralization and other aspects related to the institutional framework of the Agreement.
The Chile-EU Association Agreement was ratified in 2002 and entered into force the following year. The process of modernising the Agreement began in Brussels in November 2017 as a way of reflecting the extent and depth of the bilateral relationship and the mutual desire to project it into the future.
