Chilean Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Edgardo Riveros, together with the Head of the Chilean Delegation in the European Union, Ambassador Stella Zervoudaki, opened up the first panel discussion regarding "The Partnership Agreement between Chile and the European Union from 2002 to 2017. Accomplishments and Challenges."

In this opportunity, the Under-Secretary drew attention to the fact that the Agreement with the EU is a key element in our country's strategy towards global insertion. This can be recognized in the fact that since the effective date of the Agreement, the business exchange has doubled, having a total of 17 thousand 510 million dollars during last year. Additionally, Direct Foreign Investments during the 1974-2016 period hit a total of US$38.692 Million, which represents a 28% of the total invested in our country.

Finally, he emphasised the importance of the modernization of the Partnership Agreement, so that it can meet the current global challenges, such as the fulfilment of the sustainable development of the objectives and the strengthening of our strategic alliance, so that we can move forward in subjects such as science and technology, digital agenda, environment, climate change, oceans, the reinforcement of our institutions and politic systems, amongst others.
