Wednesday, July 18, 2018

In a resolution adopted by its Permanent Council, the Organization of American States (OAS) today condemned the acts of violence in Nicaragua and called on the parties to participate in the National Dialogue.

The resolution, presented by Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru and the United States, was approved by 21 votes in favor and seeks that the government and all parties "participate actively and in good faith in the National Dialogue, as a mechanism to generate peaceful and sustainable solutions to the situation in Nicaragua".

Along with this, the OAS declaration calls on the Nicaraguan government to "support a jointly agreed electoral calendar in the context of the National Dialogue process".
