El Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Alfredo Moreno, firmó hoy el Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) entre y Chile y Malasia, junto al Ministro Adjunto de Asuntos Exteriores de ese país, Datuk Richard Riot Anak Jaem, en Yokohama, Japón.
La ceremonia, que se da en el marco de la Cumbre de Líderes de APEC 2010, estuvo encabezada por el Presidente de la República, Sebastián Piñera y por el Primer Ministro Adjunto de Malasia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Hj. Mhd. Yassin.
Éste es el primer TLC firmado durante el gobierno del Presidente Piñera y también el primero que se firma entre Chile y un país del bloque ASEAN (Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático). Además, este TLC es también el primero que suscribe Malasia con un Estado latinoamericano.
Este acuerdo permitirá a Chile ingresar el 95% de sus productos sin arancel en el mercado de Malasia, que hoy alcanza los 26 millones de habitantes. Además durante los próximos 5 años se logrará que sea el 100% de los bienes chilenos los que lleguen a ese país sin arancel.
Dentro de los productos chilenos que llegarán a Malasia sin arancel se encuentran la carne bovina, pescados, frutas frescas, leche en polvo, yogurt, quesillo y quesos.
Joint Announcement of the President of the Republic of Chile and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia for signing of the Chile-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement

1. The President of the Republic of Chile, His Excellency Mr. Sebastián Piñera, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Mr. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Hj. Mohd. Yassin, held a meeting in Yokohama on 13th November 2010 and witnessed the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and Malaysia.
2. The conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement negotiations will provide both countries new impetus in their trade relations. This only goes to show how determined both, Chile and Malaysia are in strengthening ties of friendship and integration.
3. For Chile, this is the first Bilateral Trade Agreement to be concluded between Chile and an ASEAN member country, while for Malaysia it is the first Bilateral Trade Agreement signed with a Latin American country. We are also very happy to announce that the FTA with Malaysia will be the first Trade Agreement to enter into force during the new Chilean Administration.
4. Chile and Malaysia have always shared very similar points of views in many international forums in regards to trade liberalization and development, for these reasons and more, we have high expectations for the future of our FTA, and we are confident that this Agreement will enhance the development of our nations.
